Inner healing or "listening prayer" has been around since the 1950's as an approach to resolving any type of trauma or emotional issue. However, with the new advances in brain science, Dr. Karl Lehman, a Christian and Board Certified Psychiatrist, has developed a method called the Immanuel Approach. This method has taken inner healing to a whole new level. Dr. Lehman developed this method by merging biblical principles and truth with his medical background and knowledge of brain science.
His colleague, Dr. Jim Wilder, joined him to develop an entirely new field that Dr Wilder calls "neurotheology". It is an incredibly effective mixture of Christian theology, psychiatry and brain science which addresses the whole person, spirit, soul and body!
Using the Immanual Approach, our trained facilitators offer sensitive, non judgmental support to the person seeking help as they relate their life story and geneology. Once this history is taken, the facilitator leads the prayer partner into a real time living encounter with God the Father, Christ, or the Holy Spirit. Together they ask God to sanctify the screen of the prayer partner's imagination where the prayer partner will meet with Jesus, who does the counseling and healing.
The session always begins with prayer. The facilitator and prayer partner both submit themselves and their time together to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. The facilitator will take authority over every power of darkness and forbid any interference.
The session will last three hours. The first half will be dedicated to hearing the client 's life story, making sure that they feel emotionally safe, and explaining the Immanuel Approach as well as some basic brain science so that the client understands the purpose of visualization. This visualization technique is not a new age method but a biblical and neurologically based one. Everyone will then take a 10-minute break.
The last half of the session is dedicated to using the Immanuel Approach to lead the client in a real time living encounter with Christ on the screen of their imagination. The facilitator will coach the client to relax their body, find a comfortable position, close their eyes, take several long deep breaths and turn off their "thinking brain". The client will then ask the Lord to sanctify the screen of their imagination and then either ask Holy Spirit to refresh a memory of a real time encounter with Jesus, or simply paint a picture of where he/she would like to meet with Jesus. Once the client makes connection with the memory of an encounter with Jesus or feels he/she is living in their created scene, the facilitator will coach the client to ask, "Lord, will you come join me here?"
When Jesus arrives on the scene so that the client can see, feel or sense him, the facilitator will simply coach the client to ask Jesus questions and have them wait to hear the answers. After all, HE is the real counselor. From this point on, the client will continue to keep their eyes closed and will narrate for the facilitator what is happening between themselves and Jesus. The facilitator may coach the client to ask specific questions, but the session is really now between the client and Jesus and the facilitator takes a back seat and records the experience for the client so that they can have a written record of their interaction with God.
When Jesus reveals lies to the client, the facilitator will coach the client to renounce them and come out of agreement with them. When Jesus reveals to the client an ungodly vow they may have taken, the facilitator will coach the client to renounce the vow. If Jesus reveals any ungodly "soul ties", the facilitator will coach the client through severing them. If Jesus takes the client to a traumatic memory, the facilitator will coach them through receiving comfort from the Lord, releasing their pain to him, forgiving anyone towards whom they have bitterness or resentment, and asking Jesus what he would like to give them in exchange. The session continues in this manner until its conclusion, at which point the facilitator prays for the client and asks the Lord to seal what He has done.
The facilitator will give the client some instructions upon leaving such as journaling the experience and resting upon their arrival home. The facilitator will provide the client with the written account of the client's experience with Jesus and any follow up information that may be helpful.
